Text your say: Restricting motorcycles

Y

strong>Your comments on the commencement of a one-month trial ban of motorcycles along Jl. MH Thamrin and Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat in Central Jakarta, sparking complaints from many road users:

Install more public transportation first then introduce the restriction. Not the other way around. If there were no such facilities, do you expect these people to fly to their workplaces?

Without viable public transportation as the real cure for traffic congestion, such discriminative policies are only a painkiller to make us forget the real problem. It won'€™t solve the problem.

Rio Rivai

The only way to reduce the traffic jams is for Jakarta to have a good public transportation system that is clean and safe (like in Singapore for instance).

LAF

Traffic jams have been one of the most serious problems in Jakarta for so long.

The government has tried to reduce them, but the result is unsatisfactory. I hope we all support this program to make it a success.

Hasbullah

It'€™s good, not only to reduce the traffic jams but also to reduce air pollution.

Naylatul Alaniyah

The best solution is to ban cars. They take up more road space than motorcycles.

Fred Frogley

Why not forbid the cars instead?

Pak MB

Traffic jams are one of Jakarta'€™s biggest problems and the government always tries to reduce it. We should support that program so that Jakarta will be better.

Syafaatun Udma

It will help decrease the pollution in the city.

Oky Gresya Ningrum

It'€™s about time a measure like this was enforced; how about the underage kids riding without valid licenses, without helmets and often without license plates and even taking off their noise dampers which can create serious hearing deficiencies for bystanders? Police, please do your job properly for which we pay you.

Gamala Himsa

All such experiments of diverting traffic are done in vain until the infrastructure to decongest the city is in place.

What is being done to improve infrastructure and transportation facilities is still not visible at the ground level.

Voiceind

It'€™s a good program, just bear with it for a month and if it'€™s a success, other areas will use it. Ban private cars too.

That'€™s fair.
