AKARTA: Actor Lukman Sardi has been served with a legal notice by former reform activists over his directorial-debut film Di Balik 98 (Behind 98), kapanlagi.com reported on Thursday.
The movie, which is set against the massive student demonstrations in May 1998 that led to the fall of the Soeharto regime, will be released in theaters next week. A trailer for the film has depicted the hoisting of a political party's flag by the demonstrators.
In their argument, the plaintiffs state the student movement at that time was free from any political intervention.
'I hope the activists watch the full movie, not just the trailer [before taking legal action],' said Lukman at a press conference after the media preview on Wednesday.
The drama, written by Syamsul Hadi and Ifan Ismail, was fiction riding on an historical event, said Lukman. 'I had no ulterior motive in making the movie, so I don't need to hire a lawyer for this,' he said.
