F

oreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi has urged Malaysian oil palm plantation owners to pay attention to the security, welfare and basic rights of Indonesian migrant workers they employ.

Retno made the remarks in a dialog with over 100 Indonesian migrant workers in Kuala Lumpur during her working visit to Malaysia on Sunday, Antara news agency reported.

The minister reiterated the commitment of the Indonesian government to always be present in helping settle disputes faced by Indonesian migrant workers overseas.

She also gave advice to Malaysian companies on how to deal with various issues, including issues related to licensing and migrant workers.

She further said that the government had received much input on how to improve the system with regard to recruiting and licensing in the country.

"One of the concrete policies implemented by the Indonesian government to give maximum service and protection is the provision of hotline telephone numbers with the aim of helping migrant workers in Malaysia to easily contact Indonesia's representative offices," she said. (hhr)(+++)
