lag-carrier Garuda Indonesia on Tuesday was recognized as a five-star airline by Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy that runs airline and airport reviews worldwide.
A five-star rating is the highest granted to a commercial airline company. Only seven carriers across the globe, such as Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, and All Nippon Airways, have received the ranking.
'This award is going to be a challenge for all of us in Garuda to continue giving better services and developing our business in order to offer the best services to customers,' president director M. Arif Wibowo said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Skytrax, through its website, announced Garuda's new rating on Dec. 11, 2014. The company said that the carrier was successfully improving its services based on its strict auditing system.
Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan who attended the ceremony, said that Garuda's new rating was an excellent achievement.
'This is an extraordinary achievement and I believe that they can get this award because of continuous hard work, consistency and commitment. I want Garuda to fly higher as the best carrier in the southern part of the world,' Jonan said.
Skytrax president director Edward Plaisted added that Garuda deserved the five-star rating, as it had undergone massive improvement of its services.
Edward said that the carrier had been doing great work for the past few years. (nfo)(+++)
