ndonesia and China have agreed to strengthen economic ties by intensifying sustainable trade and investment in infrastructure, energy and financial services.
The agreement was reached in Beijing on Monday during the first high-level economic dialog between the two countries. At the dialog, the Indonesian delegation was led by Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil and the Chinese delegation was led by State Council leader Yang Jiechi, the Indonesian Embassy in China said in a statement.
The dialog was a follow-up to a meeting between Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Nov. 9, 2014, the statement said.
In the dialog, Sofyan urged China to invest in the development of integrated industrial estates in Morowali in Central Sulawesi, Konawe in Southeast Sulawesi and Ketapang in West Kalimantan as well as the development of the fisheries industry, agribusiness and logistics in Bitung, North Sulawesi.
"We hope China can participate in infrastructure development in Indonesia and enhance cooperation with Indonesia in other fields. In this regard, we agree to eliminate obstacles to economic cooperation between the two countries," he said.
China wants to support the development but urged the Indonesian government to give incentives to attract investors, according to the statement.
The dialog is expected to serve as a forum to better strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
On the occasion, the two nations also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on optimizing the development of coal-fired power plants. (hhr)
