RI records Rp 463t in realized investment in 2014

T

he amount of Indonesia'€™s realized investment for the period of Jan. - Dec. 2014 reached Rp 463.1 trillion (US$37.09 billion), exceeding a previous target of Rp 456.6 trillion and up by 16.2 percent from Rp 398.6 trillion in the same period of 2013, according to a report published Wednesday by the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

'€œThe amount of realized investment in the fourth quarter of 2014 reached Rp 120.4 trillion, comprising Rp 41.7 trillion in domestic investments and foreign investments of Rp 78.7 trillion,'€ BKPM head Franky Sibarani said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The figures revealed that the amount of realized domestic investment in 2014 reached Rp 156.1 trillion, up 21.8 percent from the previous year, while foreign investments amounted to Rp 307 trillion, or an increase of 13.5 percent.

Franky said Indonesia'€™s investment trend throughout 2014 was not overly encouraging, though realized investment had exceeded targets previously set. He added that many investors tended to exercise caution during an election year.

'€œThe investment trend in 2014 was '€˜wait and see'€™. That'€™s why from quarter to quarter, the amount of investment realized was not overly significant,'€ he said.

Based on BKPM data, the amount of realized investment in the fourth quarter of 2014 reached Rp 120.4 trillion, a slight increase from Rp 119.9 trillion in the third quarter, Rp 116.2 trillion in the second quarter and Rp 106.6 trillion in the first quarter.

Franky said he hoped this year'€™s investment target of Rp 519.5 trillion, comprising domestic investments of Rp 175.8 trillion and Rp 343.7 trillion in foreign investments -- a 14 percent increase from last year -- could be achieved.

'€œMoreover, we have been striving to facilitate and de-bottleneck 95 projects with a total investment value of more than Rp 400 trillion. If all these problems can be solved, this can further boost our investments,'€ he said. (ebf)(+++)
