KNKT reveal preliminary findings in AirAsia QZ8501 investigation

T

he National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) revealed in Jakarta on Thursday a number of findings that were crucial in the preliminary investigation in to the crash of AirAsia flight QZ8501, which killed all 162 people on board.

KNKT senior investigator Mardjono Siswosuwarno said the ill-fated Airbus A320-200 plane'€™s flight data recorder (FDR) had 1,200 parameters that could be used to investigate the crash.

'€œBut, [analyzing the data from] 34 parameters is enough. We do not need to analyze all 1,200 parameters,'€ Mardjono told the press on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

One of the most important points that would help the investigators find out what went wrong with flight QZ8501 was the data from the FDR on the weather conditions on Dec. 28, 2014.

He said that based on the FDR, the skies were heavily covered by cumulonimbus clouds, a type of clouds associated with thunder storms and heavily precipitation.

'€œThe clouds were found up to a level of 44,000 feet [above the sea level] on that day,'€ he explained.

Another important point in analyzing the crash was the fact that the A320 aircraft climbed from 32,000 feet to 37,000 feet within 30 seconds, and after that the aircraft stalled and started falling. (nfo)(++++)
