politician representing the Red-and-White Coalition says that the meeting between President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto could help dispel the image that the opposition is obstructionist in nature.
Senior Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Hidayat Nur Wahid said the meeting showed that the opposition camp was willing to work together with the ruling coalition. 'It shows that we're not obstructing or being contrarian. We're willing to communicate,' Hidayat told reporters at the House of Representatives building on Friday.
On Thursday, President Jokowi met with his rival from last year's presidential election campaign, Prabowo Subianto ' the Gerindra Party chairman and a key figure in the opposition coalition.
The meeting took place amid reports suggesting the PDI-P was threatening to withdraw its support from Jokowi's presidency, following his decision to postpone the inauguration of Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, a former aide of PDI-P chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri, as the National Police chief.
