Executing criminals is the right of the nation under the law, but the law also allows rehabilitation and reduction of sentences
xecuting criminals is the right of the nation under the law, but the law also allows rehabilitation and reduction of sentences. Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have not only been reformed but have proved productive in helping reform many drug addicts and gangsters in the prison.
Surely they should now seen as assets to the Indonesian government's efforts against drugs. So why execute them? Executing them will only lower morale in the prisons, create hopelessness among death-row convicts, which could lead to dangerous explosions of violence among a community given no hope of reform or amnesty.
Mr. President, please think again.
