fire ravaged at least 308 kiosks at Pandansari market in Balikpapan in the early hours of Saturday. No fatalities were reported.
'The fire was getting bigger at about 2 a.m.,' West Balikpapan Police chief Comr. Kifli S. Sufu was quoted as saying by Antara news agency on Saturday.
Witnesses said the fire, which originated from a kiosk on the second floor of the market, spread quickly to the third floor. Plastic and paper merchandise in the kiosks on the second floor contributed to the spread of the fire.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in the morning, but were unable to save the majority of the kiosks in the market, which was built in 2006 and opened in 2007.
