ollowing Brazil'€™s rejection of Indonesia'€™s new ambassador to the country, the government is reevaluating the ongoing procurement of a squadron, or 16 units, of Brazilian-made EMB-314 Super Tucano aircraft for the Air Force.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Monday that the government was reconsidering the aircraft'€™s purchase.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff rejected a letter of credentials from Toto Riyanto, the newly assigned Indonesian ambassador to Brazil, in a left-field diplomatic response to Indonesia'€™s plan to execute a Brazilian drug convict alongside ten other death row convicts.

Separately, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko declined to comment but said he would not allow politics to intervene in the military cooperation between the two countries despite the fact that the cooperation'€™s fate depended on the government'€™s political decision.

Moeldoko added that although the two countries'€™ military ties remained in place, the military would always be prepared to uphold Indonesia'€™s sovereignty.

He went on that the military had a reserve force to deal with threats from other countries.

'€œThis is all about politics. It'€™s not my business. But when it comes to issues relating to sovereignty, don'€™t mess with me,'€ Moeldoko said as quoted by kompas.com.

Indonesia and Brazil have come to diplomatic blows after the government refused to backtrack on its planned execution of 11 drug-smuggling and murder convicts, including a Brazilian and two Australians. (dyl)(++++)
