t least three people were killed and three others were injured in a landslide that hit Limun in Sorolangun district, Jambi, on Thursday evening.
Jambi Provincial Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Almansyah said on Friday that the incident occurred when the three were conducting illegal mining activities in the district. He said that the landslide was caused by incessant rain in the area throughout Thursday.
The three, identified as Mariam, Desi and Tanto, were residents of Tambang Tinggi village.
Antara news agency reported that three other villagers suffering serious injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The three injured victims were named as Inam, Zainab and Raimah.
Almansyah said the local administration had repeatedly forbidden villagers from carrying out illegal mining in the disaster-prone area but they ignored the ban. (rms)
