he South Jakarta municipal administration is set apply a contraflow traffic plan on Jl. Ciledug Raya during morning and afternoon rush hour to prepare for traffic congestion caused by the construction of an elevated road.
South Jakarta Transportation Agency head Priyanto said the contraflow system would be implemented once physical road construction began.
Construction of the elevated Transjakarta Corridor 13 lane is set to begin in March. The elevated lane will span from Jl. Tendean in South Jakarta to Jl. Ciledug Raya. It will be 9.3 kilometers long and 9 meters wide.
The first elevated Transjakarta corridor will have two lanes and 12 bus shelters. It is also expected to be integrated with other transportation systems.
'The construction will definitely worsen traffic congestion because the road is already narrow. Therefore, we will implement a contraflow system on Jl. Ciledug Raya and other roads if necessary,' Priyanto said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He said that the municipal administration was currently discussing the plan with the police and other related authorities.
