he Jakarta Police have arrested a man in Tanah Jambo, North Aceh, for sending a bomb threat to a hotel in West Jakarta in an attempt to extort money from the hotel management.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said on Sunday that a man identified only as R was arrested by police on Saturday night.
Martinus added that the police also confiscated two cellular phones as evidence and would remain in Aceh for further investigation.
Last Thursday evening, Sparks Hotel in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, received a telephoned bomb threat from an anonymous man who claimed to be a terrorist commander and who demanded Rp 40 million (US$3,078) in exchange for not detonating the bomb.
The man said that he would donate the money to orphanages and places of worship.
The Gegana bomb-disposal unit was deployed to search the hotel but no explosive devices were found.
