Malaysian authorities have again deported 14 Indonesian migrant workers who were in the country illegally
alaysian authorities have again deported 14 Indonesian migrant workers who were in the country illegally.
'They all encountered some problem. Some of them entered Malaysia without a passport, some had passports that expired and others had not been paid by their employers,' said Febriana, an official with the Batam Social Services Agency.
Febriana said the deported workers were mostly from Java and West Nusa Tenggara.
'We are going to collect more information from them and make sure they are safe before sending them back to their home villages,' he said.
In late February, Malaysia deported 11 Indonesian seaweed farmers who had been held in custody for allegedly crossing the country's border illegally.
Commander of the naval base in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, Lt. Col. Imam Hidayat, said the 11 farmers were handed over at the Indonesia-Malaysia border on Sebatik Island.
Besides deporting the 11 farmers, the Malaysian authorities also returned three boats used for seaweed farming.
