The number of Chinese nationals visiting Indonesia ranked the highest in February, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded.
BPS head Suryamin said on Wednesday that Chinese arrivals accounted for 18.3 percent or 144,000 out of a total of 786,700 foreign tourists.
'Chinese people maybe want to do business in Indonesia,' Suryamin said, adding that arrivals from China were expected to continue to increase once the visa-free facility for 30 countries, including China, comes into force.
The BPS further recorded that Malaysian tourists ranked second at 12.4 percent or 97,800, followed by Singaporeans at 12.4 percent or 97,400 visits.
Meanwhile, Australian tourists accounted for 10.4 percent or 82,000 visits, followed by Japanese at 5.9 percent of 46,300 tourists.
The highest increase in arrivals was recorded at Sam Ratulangi Airport in North Sulawesi, which saw a 212.70 percent increase, Suryamin said as quoted by Antara news agency. (+++++)(++++)
