ecurity guards from Nahdlatul Ulama's (NU) youth wing (GP Ansor) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will be deployed to secure Easter celebrations at churches throughout the province on April 3.
The head of NTT GP Ansor's civilian security guards (Banser) told the media on Wednesday that his organization participated in every religious celebration in NTT as part of a compulsory routine based on the spirit of togetherness and religious tolerance.
'Diversity in Indonesia should be seen as an asset that should be supported for the sake of the state, peace and tolerance,' said Banser's Abdul Muis.
According to him, differences in faith should not trigger tensions, but should draw the nation together under the state's Pancasila ideology.
In Kupang, added Muis, at least 150 Banser personnel would be deployed and each church would be secured by 10 to 15 personnel.
