survey commissioned by the Indonesian Public Opinion Study Group (kedaiKOPI) suggests that 96.5 percent of Indonesians want an immediate Cabinet reshuffle as a result of the poor performance of several government ministers.
'It seems that people want President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo to immediately reshuffle his Working Cabinet,' said Hendri Satrio, a communication and political analyst from the University of Paramadina, as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the demand for a reshuffle developed in response to a wide array of issues reported in national mass media outlets, including stories on disappointed Jokowi followers, political turmoils, skyrocketing commodity prices, politically motivated distributions of positions in state-owned companies, the depreciating rupiah and inconsistent implementation of Jokowi's vision and mission compiled in the so-called Nawacita.
Conducted from April 1 through April 6, the survey collected opinions of 368 public respondents.
The survey also asked respondents when Jokowi should reshuffle his Cabinet: 217 respondents, or 58.97 percent, said President Jokowi should reshuffle his Cabinet before the middle of 2015. Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti and Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro were two Cabinet ministers considered to have good track records so far.
'Susi is thought to have successfully created various breakthroughs to solve fisheries and maritime affairs-related issues, while Bambang has managed to develop a revised state budget that guarantees an available supply of development funds for President Jokowi,' the survey revealed.
Among the ministers deemed to have unsatisfying work performances are Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani, Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil and Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar.
Trade Minister Rahmat Gobel, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi and National Development Planning Minister/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Andrinof Chaniago are three ministers also considered to have poor work performances. (ebf)(++++)
