he Riau Islands Province and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry released 304 small lobsters on Saturday into waters off Hantu Island, Batam, in an effort to preserve the marine crustaceans.
Head of the Batam Fish Quarantine Agency, Ashari Syarief, said the lobsters had been seized from a ferry in Sekupang Harbor, Batam, on Tuesday.
'Our officers were suspicious of three large boxes that had been unloaded from the ferry. They then found that the lobsters inside were not accompanied by documents,' Syarief told The Jakarta Post.
He said the lobsters fell into the category 'forbidden for trade', as they measured less than 8 centimeters as stipulated by Ministerial Decree No. 1/2015.
