Fire in Pondok Indah Mall

A fire broke out in a restaurant on the second floor of the Pondok Indah Mall 1 (PIM 1) in South Jakarta on Monday

A fire broke out in a restaurant on the second floor of the Pondok Indah Mall 1 (PIM 1) in South Jakarta on Monday.

The fire was reportedly caused by an exploding gas canister.

Head of the South Jakarta Fire Agency Sutarman said the fire was brought under control after the agency deployed eight fire appliances having received a report on the fire at 2:30 p.m. His team are currently trying to determine the precise cause of the fire. No fatalities were reported in the incident.

According to several witnesses a loud explosion was heard in the restaurant, which immediately caught fire, employees and shoppers quickly evacuated the building.

Recently another restaurant in the the PIM 2 building also caught fire. (rms)(++++)
