Asia, Africa ready to play greater global roles

s the 2015 Asian-African summit concluded on Thursday, nations of both continents have expressed their commitment to working together to craft influential power links in a bid to challenge the current world order blamed for world's injustice and inequality.

All seven sessions of the two-day summit went smoothly, with all delegates from 105 countries, including 21 heads of states and governments, agreeing to adopt the three documents: the Bandung Message, the Declaration on Reinvigorating the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) and the Declaration on Palestine.

"This summit is one of the largest intergovernmental forums outside the UN. The voices in the summit represent the voices of Asia and Africa. Thus, people of the world should listen to the voices and decisions we made during the Summit," Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said in his closing remarks.

It has also been agreed to institutionalize the forum for the countries in both continents in a bid to better monitor the follow ups of the NAASP.

"There will be a bi-annual meeting at the ministerial level in New York around the times of UN General Assembly," AACC spokesman Yuri Thamrin said.

Participants have also set out that the world order should give more room to emerging powers.

"We have agreed to establish a network of peacekeeping centers in the two regions. We all condemn acts of extremism and terrorism in the name of religion and promote dialogue among cultures and religions," Jokowi said.

"I hope you all agree that this was a very successful meeting. There's no doubt, this summit will be as historic as the one that gave birth to the 1955 Bandung Spirit," Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who co-chaired the summit with Jokowi, said in his closing remarks. (nvn)(+++)
