arious competitions, from knife-throwing to archery to poker, were on hand when the all-male Kolese Kanisius High School, one of the oldest institutions in Indonesia, held its annual alumni gathering on Saturday.
Hundreds of former students of the school gathered to reminisce and join various competitions at the alumni day, held at the school's campus in Menteng, Jakarta.
The theme of this year's event was "Harmony in Diversity", chosen due to the fact that students came from a variety of backgrounds, ethnic groups and religions, despite Kanisius' status as a Catholic school.
"Coming from various ethnicities, religions and culture, Kanisius alumni have all utilized their differences in background to contribute to Indonesian society in their own ways," said T. Ario Basas, chairman of the organizing committee of the 2015 Kanisius Alumni Day.
Kolese Kanisius junior and senior high schools in Jakarta have accepted only male students since its establishment in 1927.
Its alumni include influential policymakers and politicians such as former ministers Chatib Basri and Ginandjar Kartasasmita, former House of Representatives speaker Akbar Tandjung, former Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo, student activist Soe Hok Gie, businessmen Budi Hartono and Sofjan Wanandi, international affairs expert Jusuf Wanandi, among others.
