n angry mob set fire to the Limun Police office and the nearby official residence of the police chief on Saturday. The incident was triggered by the death of Edwar, 20, a Pulau Aro resident who was shot dead by a Limun Police officer.
The Limun Police said they knew the names of seven alleged ringleaders of the incident. "We have obtained the identities of the suspected perpetrators and we have called on them to give themselves up," Sarolangun Police chief Adj.Sr.Comr.Ridho Hartawan said on Sunday.
He acknowledged that a Limun Police officer had shot Edwar, early on Saturday. The resident of Pulau Aro, Pelalawan district, Sarolangun regency, died at the Chatib Quzwain Regional General Hospital, Sarolangun.
"Yes, it's correct. It was our police officer who shot him. The shooting occurred during our follow up investigation after the arrest of a drug dealer on Friday," said Ridho.
He said Edwar attempted to avoid arrest. "The shooting was in line with procedures. Our police officers fired a warning shot first," Ridho said.
Edwar's family denied this however. Erik, a family member, said the incident began when Edwar went to refuel his motorbike in Pulau Pandan village intersection.
"He was waiting for his friend in Pulau Pandan village intersection when six police officers suddenly approached. He was startled and fled on his motorbike. That was when he was shot," said Erik. (ebf)(++++)
