Media throng Cilacap ahead of executions

J

ournalists from electronic and print media have flocked to the area around Wijayapura port in Cilacap, Central Java, ahead of the imminent executions of 10 death-row inmates.

After all foreign envoys and inmates'€™ relatives and lawyers were summoned for a last visit to the condemned prisoners, a host of journalists arrived at the port to cover the executions, whose date has been set by the Attorney General'€™s Office for Tuesday.

Reporters have been pressing officers and inmates'€™ relatives and lawyers leaving the island for the latest news regarding the inmates'€™ condition.

The planned executions have drawn great attention from national and foreign media, with protests registered by the governments of the inmate'€™s countries, especially Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands and France, as well as the European Union. (rms)(++++)
