ndonesia has the chance to bring home two titles from the ongoing Badminton Asia Championships after the country's two strong pairs advanced to win their semifinal matches in Wuhan, China, on Saturday.
Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir brushed aside their Chinese nemeses Xu Chen and Ma Jin 21-12, 21-15 in the mixed doubles match at the Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium. Later, men's doubles pair Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan held off Cai Yun and Lukai, also from China, for a 21-12, 18-21, 21-16 victory.
Tontowi and Liliyana put their success down to their composure during the game.
'We played more relaxedly today. Although when they caught up with us, we could control the situation. We were by no means in a rush. We focused on the fight for each point,' Liliyana said as quoted in a release by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
They will face Chun Hei Reginald Lee and Hoi Wah Chau of Hong Kong in the finals on Sunday.
'We are glad to have won today, but we shall not let up tomorrow,' Liliyana said.
The Indonesian pair met their opponents twice, at the BWF World Championships 2013 and in this year's Singapore Open. Both meetings ended with the Indonesians victorious.
'Although we hold the advantage in the head-to-head, we are keen to consider it as void, as if we had never met them before,' Liliyana said.
The Hong Kong pair conquered the other Indonesian pair, Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto, in the quarterfinals.
Hendra and Ahsan will meet Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong in the finals. The tournament top seeds beat fellow Koreans Kim Gi-jung and Kim Sa-rang 21-18, 21-9.
It will be all-Chinese matches in the men's singles and women's doubles. Lin Dan will face Tian Houwei, while Ma Jin and Tang Yuanting will take on Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang.
Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and Li Xuerui of China will play for the women's singles title.
