T

he National Police's detective division (Bareskrim) hauled off two bags full of evidence after they searched the office of councilor Abraham "Lulung" Lunggana at the City Council building in Central Jakarta on Monday in connection with a case of suspected graft related to the procurement of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices.

Head of Bareskrim's corruption subdirectorate, Sr. Comr. Muhammad Ikram, told reporters that they had also searched the City Council's Commission E room and the office of fellow councillor Fahmi Zulfikar of the Hanura Party.

"We took away one box of documents and several electronic devices including three computers, their CPUs and an electronic recording device," he said, adding that there had been no obstacles to their search.

Lulung, who from 2009 to 2014 was coordinator of City Council Commission E on welfare, was not present during the search. The entrepreneur, whose office is on the building'€™s ninth floor, is currently deputy chairman of the City Council and a member of the United Development Party (PPP) faction.

Several members of Commission E and a number of city officials are suspected to have conspired in the mark-up of UPS procurement in the 2014 budget.(+++)
