ZTE launches new Blade S6, responds to iPhone copycat critics

Chinese cell phone maker ZTE Corporation launched on Tuesday its new Blade series ZTE Blade S6.

The new phone is powered by the 64-bit Snapdragon octacore processor and runs on the Android Lollipop operating system.

'€œI think the product we'€™re launching today is very competitive, very fast. Lots of features and we offer a good price for it. In the second half of the year, we'€™ll continue to introduce more smartphones,'€ ZTE managing director for Singapore and Indonesia Wang Feng said.

The phone, which allows users to use dual SIM, is also equipped with a 13 megapixel camera and 5-inch screen.

There are ZTE original features, such as the Smart Sense gesture that lets users use applications with simple gestures, Mifavor 3.0, which lets users set the colors of the menu and wallpaper, and AliveShare, which lets users transfer data at a high speed without needing a cellular network.

The phone has been available for purchase since Tuesday on e-commerce website Lazada with a special discount from its original price of Rp 2,99 million (US$229.93)

Responding to the phone's physical resemblance with the iPhone 6, Wang stated that the phone offered more than the latest version of the iPhone.

'€œThis is not a copycat. There are so many differences between this phone and the iPhone 6,'€ he said.

Wang added that he had high expectations even though phone sales were difficult to forecast.

Indonesia remained an important market for ZTE, albeit not the company'€™s biggest market.

Wang stated that the company, currently ranked the fourth in the US market, expected 60 million in global shipments this year compared to the 48 million shipped last year. (fsu)(+++)
