fire engulfed a timber warehouse and a house in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta, on Tuesday night. Total losses are estimated at Rp 1 billion (US$77,000).
North Jakarta Fire Department head Eddy Putranto said on Wednesday that his office had deployed 23 fire trucks to the scene.
Eddy said the fire started at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday and was extinguished by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
'We had difficulty extinguishing the fire because of the wood stored in the warehouse,' he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
According to Eddy, there were no fatalities but one fireman had to be treated at a community health center for exposure of the eyes to hot ash.
'We assume that the fire was caused by a short circuit,' he said. (cor)(+++)
