A

fire engulfed a timber warehouse and a house in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta, on Tuesday night. Total losses are estimated at Rp 1 billion (US$77,000).

North Jakarta Fire Department head Eddy Putranto said on Wednesday that his office had deployed 23 fire trucks to the scene.

Eddy said the fire started at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday and was extinguished by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

'€œWe had difficulty extinguishing the fire because of the wood stored in the warehouse,'€ he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

According to Eddy, there were no fatalities but one fireman had to be treated at a community health center for exposure of the eyes to hot ash.

'€œWe assume that the fire was caused by a short circuit,'€ he said. (cor)(+++)
