A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook Bengkulu at dawn on Saturday, reportedly causing no damage or fatalities.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake hit the province at 3:26 a.m. and its epicenter was located 50 kilometers east of North Bengkulu.
Antara news agency reported on Saturday that there had been no damage to Putri Hijau District in North Bengkulu.
'Residents woke up because of the strong quake but no damage or fatalities have been found,' Putri Hijau district head Sahbudin said.
BMKG Bengkulu head Sudiyanto said the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami. (rms)
