The Timor Evangelical Church (GMIT) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province has demanded that the Australian government immediately compensate fishermen deprived by the Montara oil spill in the Timor Sea in August 2009.
Your comments:
The Church has full liberty to go through the normal transparent judicial process in Australia to gain compensation.
However, they will have to get sufficient evidence that a decline in fish numbers is directly attributable to the oil and gas spill. A decline in fish numbers may in fact be due to other reasons, such as overfishing.
