ouse of Representatives deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah says that revision of the 2015 Regional Elections (pilkada) Law will continue despite the Golkar Party's short-term reconciliation, saying that all parties in the House had agreed to it.
'All parties in the House agree that amending the law is the best and safest way in order to carry on with the regional elections,' Fahri said on Tuesday at the House complex in Jakarta.
He further said that the amendment would continue despite objections by the government to the plan. Fahri commented that even though factions within Golkar had reconciled for the sake of the regional elections, it did not guarantee that the situation in the regional areas would be secure.
'We cannot speculate that everything will be fine, even after Golkar reconciles. The reconciliation is not a reason to call off the plan to amend the law,' the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker said.
Golkar's reconciliation leaves the United Development Party (PPP) as the only party experiencing internal conflict, which could jeopardize its right to participate in regional elections scheduled for Dec. 9. (hhr)(++++)
