he Central Java High Prosecutor's Office named on Tuesday the head of the Semarang Water Resources Development and Energy and Mineral Resources Office as a corruption suspect in relation to a retention pool project in Muktiharjo.
Central Java High Prosecutor's Office intelligence assistant Jacob Hendrik P. said Nugroho Joko Purwanto was named a suspect following an investigation.
Hendrik added that the retention pool project was aimed at retaining excess water during the rainy season to prevent floods engulfing Muktiharjo and Tlogosari villages. The project used funds from the Semarang city budget in 2014 of Rp 34.9 billion (about US$2.6 million).
'We named him a suspect given strong initial evidence of fund misappropriation in the project. The amount of losses incurred by the state remains unclear, but [are] estimated at Rp 1 billion from the total amount of budget for the project. We are still calculating,' said Hendrik.
