Authorities have arrested two more foreign fishing boats for allegedly poaching on North Sulawesi waters
Authorities have arrested two more foreign fishing boats for allegedly poaching on North Sulawesi waters.
The presence of the boats indicates that foreign poachers have not been discouraged by the stern action taken by the government, which recently sank 14 foreign boats off Bitung, North Sulawesi.
Fredo Maelisa, captain of Hiu Macan 302 boat who arrested the foreign fishing vessels, said the two boats had been detained at 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Monday, respectively.
The first vessel, KM Altri 88, was operated by nine Filipino crew members, while the second, KM Marinir, by eight crew members.
In order to deceive the officers, the Filipino fishermen had changed the name of their boats to local names, including one named after the Indonesian marines. (hhr)(++++)
