Members of the West Sumatra branch of the Association of Environmental Intellectuals of Indonesia (Perwaku) and the northern Sumatra coordinator of the Environmental Studies Center have asked the West Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPUD) to include the environment as an important issue in the vision and mission of regional leadership candidates
embers of the West Sumatra branch of the Association of Environmental Intellectuals of Indonesia (Perwaku) and the northern Sumatra coordinator of the Environmental Studies Center have asked the West Sumatra General Elections Commission (KPUD) to include the environment as an important issue in the vision and mission of regional leadership candidates.
West Sumatra Perwaku executive board head Indang Dewata said the environmental vision of regional leaders in the province had been overlooked, whereas regional leaders should have a clear vision on the issue and eco-friendly programs.
'We wish leaders across West Sumatra to have a clear vision on the environment, so the underlying issues could be dealt with properly by the new leaders ,' Indang said on Wednesday.
He added that West Sumatra was plagued by environmental issues because two-thirds of its territory was mountainous and full of volcanoes, lakes and rivers.
