The Jakarta administration is set to revise Bylaw No
span style="color: #500050; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">The Jakarta administration is set to revise Bylaw No. 10/1998 on ground and surface water tax collection and utilization following the annulment of Water Resources Law No. 7/2004 by the Constitutional Court.
The court reinstated Water Law No. 11/1974 after ruling in favor of the plaintiffs, who insisted that the 2004 law encouraged privatization and commercialization of water resources at the expense of people's right to water.
Water Management Agency head Agus Priyono said that the city administration was currently holding internal discussions and preparing new concepts with the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to revise the bylaw. In the revision, Agus said the city would limit the utilization of groundwater in order to reduce land subsidence.
"Land subsidence has been a problem in Jakarta. Many offices and residences utilize too much groundwater. Hopefully we can complete the revision soon," Agus told reporters at City Hall on Friday.
