he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) raided a house belonging to former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Thursday.
The KPK investigators conducted the raid in connection with a haj fund graft case in which Suryadharma is a suspect.
'In the course of further investigation into the case, the commission raided the suspect's house today,' KPK spokesperson Priharsa Nugraha said on Thursday.
The KPK named the former United Development Party (PPP) chairman a corruption suspect in 2014 in a case surrounding the 2012-2013 haj pilgrimage program. He is expected to stand trial soon in the case, which allegedly caused state losses of nearly Rp 2 trillion (US$150 million).
Suryadharma has said that the KPK is wrong to prosecute him in the case because it could not provide a comprehensive formal audit detailing how 'I could embezzle such a huge amount of money from the haj program, which ran well during my tenure as religious affairs minister.'
