T

he director of the Blue Bird group, the country'€™s largest taxi operator, Adrianto Djokosoetono, has been elected as the new chairman of the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda).

Adrianto beat the incumbent, businesswoman Eka Sari Lorena Surbakti, with 381 votes to Eka'€™s 201 votes in Organda'€™s recent national congress in Yogyakarta.

Adrianto said that his next move would focus on restructuring and internal consolidation.

"By next week or the next two weeks, the new formation should be established," Adrianto told the Jakarta Post over the phone on Friday.

He expected the organization would have better coordination with regional Organda branches across Indonesia under his leadership.

He added that he had prepared for the upcoming Idul Fitri religious holiday, which usually saw an increase in passengers due to the annual mass exodus.

"We are still waiting for instructions from the [transportation] ministry. They usually already have programs to run," he said.

He said he would also monitor the availability of land transportation, carry out safety checks and provide hotlines for passengers in the routine exodus this year. (fsu/ika)(+++)
