tarting this upcoming school year, the Tangerang Regency Education Agency will oblige Muslim students in all levels of education to study Arabic.
Agency head Zaenudin said on Thursday that the subject was chosen because it was suited to the vision and mission of the regency, where faith and religiosity were important elements.
'With the subject, we hope that students can implement the teaching of Koran and other Islamic rules,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Zaenudin said Arabic sessions would not affect the schedules of other subjects as it would become an additional class with an additional hour.
He added that there would be an evaluation for the students, as instructed by Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar.
'The evaluation ranges from their understanding of the subject to how they practice it,' he said.
