resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is scheduled to officially open the 116-kilometer Cipali toll road, which connects Cikopo in Cikampek and Palimanan in Cirebon, on Saturday.
With the new toll road connecting the existing Jakarta-Cikampek and Palimanan-Brebes toll roads, motorists will be able to travel from Jakarta to Brebes in as little as four hours.
Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the President asked for the toll road's official opening to be conducted ahead of the scheduled date of June 15.
'The toll road's construction has been expedited so that it can be officially opened on Saturday and then directly after that, opened to the public,' Basuki said on his arrival at Halim Perdanakusumah Airport after accompanying the President to officially open the Gempol-Pandaan toll road in East Java on Friday.
Asked about the new road's toll, he said he had yet to see a ministerial decree on it but based on recent calculations, a car using the toll road would pay Rp 850 (6.39 US cents) per kilometer.
The minister said the new toll road would reduce the traffic on the Pantura (northern coast) highway.
'The new toll road is expected to reduce 40 percent of the traffic flow on Pantura highway,' he said as quoted by kompas.com. (rms)(+++)
