span class="inline inline-center"> Karaoke and live music houses in the capital city will likely be thronged by entertainment seekers as they are allowed to continue operations during Ramadhan.
The head of the Tourism and Culture Agency in North Jakarta, Suwarto, said on Wednesday that other than karaoke and live music houses, all entertainment centers, discotheques, spas and massage parlors were required to suspend their daily activities during the fasting month.
He said karaoke and live music houses were allowed to be open from 8:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m., while other entertainment centers had to suspend their daily operations.
He said the city administration would impose sanctions ranging from reprimands to fines or jail sentences on entertainment centers violating the ruling.
'The harshest sanction can be a maximum three-month jail sentence or a maximum fine of Rp 5 million,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
The police have also warned entertainment centers against continuing their operations during the fasting month and warned unauthorized mass organizations against raiding entertainment centers, restaurants and food stalls. (rms/dmr)(+++)
