Two former soccer coaches have admitted that match-fixing occurs in Indonesia.
Agus Yuwono, the former coach of Persifadon Jayapura and Persegres Gresik, and Gunawan, the former coach of Persipur Purwodadi, confessed on Wednesday night that their clubs had been targeted for match-fixing.
'When I was a coach, I was asked three times to conspire to fix matches,' Agus as quoted by tempo.co.
He claimed that match-fixers had offered him Rp 200 million if he allowed his team to lose a 2012 match, stressing that he had rejected the offer.
In Gunawan's case, his club was offered Rp 400 million, with each player to receive between Rp 10 and Rp 15 million per thrown game in the 2013 Indonesian Super League (ISL).
Almost half the teams competing in the 2013 ISL were involved in match-fixing practices, according to Gunawan.
Both Agus and Gunawan said they were prepared to testify in court. (ika)(+++)
