outh and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi has asked law authorities to investigate an allegation that the Indonesian U-23 soccer team engaged in match-fixing at the recent SEA Games in Singapore.
'The investigation is under the remit of the authority of law enforcers, as with match -fixing cases in other countries,' Imam said as quoted by Antara on Thursday.
The minister made the comments during a press conference to welcome the return of Indonesian badminton athletes from a tournament in Singapore at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday.
Imam said if match-fixing had taken place, it was law enforcers that had the authority to bring perpetrators to justice.
'I myself have never heard about it in detail. It was the soccer reform team known as Tim Sembilan [Team Nine] that revealed indications of match-fixing indications. Match-fixing was a fact. It was known by the public [...],' said the minister.
The case began when BS, said to be a match-fixing player, reported alleged match-fixing practices committed by Indonesian soccer teams during national and international matches to the National Police's crime investigation division.(+++)
