witter account @jokowi became the official account of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo after he shifted from his old account, @jokowi_do2, to his new account on his 54th birthday on Sunday.
A Twitter press release quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday said @jokowi had been verified as the official account of the President.
@jokowi will become a platform for the President to interact directly with people and discuss important issues occurring in their surroundings.
Jokowi said he hoped he could interact more and would be more transparent with people by issuing exclusive, official Tweets directly from him that would be signed with 'JKW at the end of each of his tweets.
@jokowi has more than 2.9 million followers, comprising followers from Jokowi's old account and those on his new account.
Jokowi has collected more than 560,000 followers since he was officially inaugurated as the president in October. His followers have increased by 54,000 since last weekend after he activated his @jokowi account.
Jokowi became a trending topic on Twitter, collecting more than 160,000 mentions on Twitter, on his birthday. Many people tweeted birthday messages to him on @jokowi. #HBDjokowi ranked Twitter Trend #1 in Indonesia on Sunday. (ebf)(+++)
