even out of 10 parties at the House of Representatives' legislative body have agreed on the plan to reinstate a program that allocates Rp 20 billion (US$1.5 million) to each House member to develop their respective voter districts.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Mandate Party (PAN), United Development Party (PPP), National Awakening Party (PKB), Gerindra, the Democratic Party and Golkar all agreed to the program, popularly known as the constituency fund program, during a vote held at a House legislative body meeting on Tuesday.
Only three parties ' the National Democratic (NasDem) party, Hanura party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) ' rejected the idea.
NasDem and Hanura have reiterated their official stances in the meeting, saying that the constituency fund is unnecessary and has no strong social or legal basis.
Meanwhile, the PDI-P said that Indonesia's current political system was unable to ensure equal development in all regions.
'I have to remind you that the political system that we have at the moment has not yet allowed us to carry out equal distribution and development among all regions. There will be imbalances,' said a PDI-P member at the legislative body named Irmadi Lubis.
Before Tuesday, the PDI-P had yet to offer its official stance to the public on the matter.
The constituency fund will be discussed further at the House's plenary meeting on the issue. (ika)(++++)
