A fire engulfed a house on Jl. Pampang in Makassar, South Sulawesi, early on Wednesday, killing six of the family members living there.

Witnesses said the fire was believed to have been caused by the stove.

The fire started to engulf the semi-permanent house on stilts owned by Daeng Ratna, 70, Antara news agency reported.

One of the family members, Udin, managed to get out of the house by breaking the wall. "I broke the wall to get out, but unfortunately I could not save my family," he said.

Udin was in shock to see the tragic incident.

At least 10 fire engines were deployed to put out the fire.

The six victims were identified as Daeng Ratna, 70; Risma, 30; Ramadhan, 20; Riski, 10; Rezky, 12 and Suci, 10. (hhr)
