ndonesian water police arrested the crew of two Malaysian-flagged vessels for fishing using trawl nets in Karang Unarang waters in Ambalat, Sebatik Island, East Kalimantan on Wednesday.
East Kalimantan chief of the water police's law enforcement sub-directorate Adj. Comr. Djarot Agung said that "the skippers of the two boats failed to show the fishing permit document [SIPI] or the fishing operations permit [SIUP] required to operate in Indonesian territory."
The government has banned the use of trawl nets in fishing.
Djarot said that the crew breached Law No. 45/2009 on fisheries.
"We have confiscated the two vessels along with their contents for evidence," he said.(++++)
