Text your say: KPK to be rendered toothless

strong>Your comments on the plan by the government and the House of Representatives to revise the Corruption Eradication (KPK) Law, which will scrap the KPK'€™s prosecution rights and restrict its ability to wiretap:

Yes, but it is already dramatically weakened. Indonesia is now a police state.

Lasem Benny

Acting KPK chairman Taufiqurrahman Ruki was previously quoted as supporting an amendment to the KPK law.

Now taking the cue from the boss he is singing a completely different tune. As for President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo, we should offer him some credit for this halfhearted attempt. Too little too late though.

Wandering star

The KPK is basically dead.  Regardless of the bills, the KPK will never have the power to call police or other party hardliners '€œsuspects'€, thus eliminating any chances of charges.

Willo

The KPK is already operationally dead.

This just allows the ruling party to claim they are anti-corruption before voting in the pork barrel scheme.

Atom

Any amendment must focus on strengthening the KPK, not the reverse.

The detractors and enemies of the KPK are those extremely uncomfortable with their secret crimes, but have realized over time that the tentacles of the KPK will eventually grab them.

Reject any revision to weaken the KPK.

James

So, if all is great and even the KPK is happy with the law as it is, then why change it? Or is it because it works too well?

Kantisini

Imagine what the KPK could do if it were really allowed to carry out its function without both hands tied behind its back and, possibly soon, the inability to hear.

The pretext of human rights to hamper phone intercepts of legitimate criminal investigations should be looked at as treason and those that support such a move removed from government without delay.
