"For the time being, [Margriet] is the main suspect," Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Ronny Franky Sompie said, adding that the decision was based on evidence presented by expert witnesses from the Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali Police's forensic laboratory and the National Police.
According to Ronny, former main suspect Agustay "Agus" Hamda May, a domestic helper at Margriet's house, helped bury the girl's body in the backyard of Margriet's house in Denpasar.
Previously, Agus claimed that Margriet had killed her daughter and promised to pay Agus Rp 200 million (US$15,000) to inter the corpse.
Antara news agency reported Ronny as saying that police investigators had yet to question Margriet as a murder suspect.
Margriet had previously been named a suspect, and interrogated, for child neglect. She has denied killing Engeline.
