elations between Indonesia and China were among the key topics, others including Asia Pacific developments and ASEAN-China cooperation, highlighted by former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during his dialogue with university students in China on Sunday.
'You are lucky to be in China and to be studying here, where you can observe directly the revival of China as the second largest economy of the world, in which it is becoming an influencing power on both regional and international levels,' he said as quoted by Antara.
During his dialogue with students of the University of Tsinghua, Beijing, on Sunday, Yudhoyono expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit the university.
'I'm very honored to be here, in the best university, where I was awarded a doctorate honoris causa some time ago,' he said.
The sixth Indonesian president further said he agreed with the University of Tsinghua's principles, namely 'discipline and social commitment' and 'actions speak louder than words'.
'Without discipline, we won't be able to reach what we want to realize. Discipline also became my basic principle when I led Indonesia to make the country better [and] more advanced,' Yudhoyono said in his remarks.
Before the dialogue, Yudhoyono met with University of Tsinghua president Qiu Yong. Around 55 students both from Tsinghua and other universities in Beijing attended the dialogue.
Yudhoyono received his doctorate honoris causa from the University of Tsinghua, the oldest university in China, in 2012. Established in 1911, the university has produced several prominent figures such as President Xi Jinping, former president Hu Jiantao and former Chinese prime minister Zhu Rongji. (ebf)
