Fifty-eight Taiwanese and Chinese citizens netted in a raid by immigration authorities in Batam, Riau Islands, will be deported for visa misuse
ifty-eight Taiwanese and Chinese citizens netted in a raid by immigration authorities in Batam, Riau Islands, will be deported for visa misuse.
According to a preliminary investigation, the foreigners entered Indonesia through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta using visas on arrival, under which visitors may not work.
'Some have been on the island for three months, others for only three days,' Batam Immigration Office staff member Rafly said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
According to Rafly, the case is a side effect of the government's policy to ease foreign tourist access to the country under Presidential Regulation No. 69/2015 on visas on arrival for foreign visitors.
'[The case] is a result of the policy,' Rafly said.
'[The Chinese and Taiwanese citizens] will be deported because only foreigners who benefit Batam are allowed to come to the island. Those who don't contribute will be deported immediately,' he added. (rms)(++++)
